The County of Orange has owned portions of Aliso Beach since 1949. Parking facilities, restrooms and lifeguard services were soon installed. A 600-foot, diamond-shaped pier was built in the early 1970s, but later removed due to storm damage in 1998 There are many group and family picnic areas in Myrtle Beach State Park. All of them though are concentrated in a few areas. The first place is off of the main park road between the main park office and where the parking lot opens up the beach and pier. Picnic areas are found to the left as you come into the park, on the north side of the road
